The BeSmart Wellness Coalition evolved from a group of concerned parents and students who see the need to offer more options/activities as part of a solution to the ongoing problem of teen substance abuse in our community.

How does the BeSmart Wellness Coalition differ from SADD, Peer Leadership, and DARE?

The BeSmart Coalition, SADD, Peer Leadership, and DARE have a similar mission; they all strive to increase awareness about the problem of underage drinking and driving, as well as to encourage student leadership, and making good decisions.

However, BeSmart is a unique, community-wide coalition with a broader focus on overall student wellness. BeSmart members include student leaders, parents, and professionals from the King Philip community. BeSmart will continue to work with other community groups on projects that support our shared goal of preventing underage substance use, as well as promoting safety and wellness for teens and their families.

Our Vision

The King Philip Community is a place where:

• There is a network of caring and responsible adults who are working together

to promote the safety and wellness of teens and families.

• Teens are empowered to make good and healthy decisions.

• Teens who “choose to not use” chemicals are connected and supported.

• Students have a voice, are taken seriously, and serve on advisory committees.

• Coaches, advisors, and their athletic teams and activity groups take a stand

against chemical use and dangerous decisions.

• Parents, schools, and the community provide a variety of safe gathering places, fun activities, learning and leadership opportunities.

• The community works together to limit access to chemicals and the oppor

tunities to use them by providing alternative activities
